As far back as I can remember I have enjoyed creating. Resisting formal instruction as a child, I unexpectedly found my home in the Art Department during my college years and ended up earning a Bachelor’s degree in Art: Mixed Media. My formal training opened opportunities for a broad range of artistic mediums, such as leaded glass, watercolor, ceramics, and sculpture. Since then, the adventures of life have kept the majority of my focus. In the last few years, I began to reacquaint myself with the creative world through pen and ink, as well as, watercolor. I am excited to see where this new path leads.

Ebb Tide continues to add new, amazing artists to its roster. Meet Rebecca Ledger.
Like any well-developed watercolor painting, it is through the process of layering that depth is created. As such, my evolution as an artist required progression through many of life's stages.
As a child who grew up watching "All Creatures Great and Small" and reading Beatrix Potter stories, and who aspired to veterinary school, I drew horses and felines in endless iterations, until I intuitively understood the anatomy of each.
In college, colored pencil drawing served as a therapeutic distraction from over-preparing for exams. The elective courses I pursued in the summer were most reflective of my passions and future pursuits -- Photography 101 and Alpine Plant Ecology. I was already an avid hiker and rarely without a camera.
After college, I knew I wanted to carve out an artistic life, but I also was enraptured with gardening. I gardened for others, worked in plant nurseries, and propagated native plants in my own garden, alongside exquisite ornamentals. I began to explore watercolor -- my mother's chosen medium. The relinquishing of control, during wet-in-wet painting, captivated me the most, and I felt that I could create more quickly, while letting go of the excessive detail inherent in my colored pencil works.
My husband and I "bought the farm" around 2008, which included a parched horse pasture and a simple barn. Alongside food crops, my predominantly native plantings and our flock of ducks established a verdant ecosystem, which has matured into a sanctuary for wildlife and a well-spring of awe and inspiration.
I began working in bookkeeping and studying accounting, and as the pace of my life picked up, photography was the glue that held my artistic aspirations together . . . and on truly extraordinary mornings, sometimes made me late to work. It kept my compositional skills sharp and helped me capture moments of wonder as they unfolded around me.
In 2021, I circled back for an artistic "renaissance," this time wise to business, and feeling that I had a wealth of material to express. Finally, I decided that painting was a non-negotiable part of my day, and that the time was ripe for a seasonable unfolding.
